GaN chargers explained: USB-C PD, ports and the right cables

GaN, USB-C PD and Quick Charge - what do they mean, and why should you care?
When you look at modern chargers and cables, you will often see terms like GaN, USB-C PD and Quick Charge. They can be confusing, but they tell you something very practical about charging speed, how versatile your USB-C PD charger is, and how compact a charger can be. Below you get a clear, everyday explanation, so you can choose the right setup and avoid common issues like slow charging, the wrong cable choice and devices getting unnecessarily warm.
What is USB-C PD?
USB-C PD stands for USB-C Power Delivery. It is a charging standard that allows the charger and the device to communicate and agree on the right voltage and current. This is why USB-C PD can be used for much more than basic phone charging. Power Delivery is what makes a USB-C charger suitable for phones, tablets and many laptops.
In practice, this means you can often use one USB-C PD charger for several devices, as long as they support USB-C PD. For many people, that is the biggest advantage: fewer chargers, less clutter and more flexibility at home and on the go.
What is GaN, and why is a GaN charger often smaller?
GaN is short for gallium nitride. It is not a charging standard, but the technology used inside the charger. Many traditional chargers use silicon, while GaN components can operate more efficiently. The result is often that a GaN charger can be made smaller and lighter at the same power level.
For you, that typically means three benefits:

A more compact charger - easier to carry and takes up less space in a wall outlet.
Higher efficiency - more of the power is delivered to your device, with less energy lost as heat.
High power in a small form factor - for example, 65 W in a nano charger can be a big advantage if you want to use it as a USB-C PD laptop charger.

What is Quick Charge 3.0?
Quick Charge 3.0 is a fast-charging technology typically used on USB-A ports. While USB-C PD primarily belongs to USB-C, Quick Charge can be relevant for many devices that charge from USB-A. On a charger that includes both USB-C and USB-A, you can often charge different device types at the same time.
This is especially useful if you have a mix of newer and older devices in your household, or if you want to charge multiple devices simultaneously from one charger.
What is the correct term: PD, GaN or PD GaN?
The short answer is:

USB-C PD describes the charging standard and compatibility.
GaN describes the charger technology that often enables a smaller, more efficient design.
USB-C PD GaN is commonly used as a combined term for a compact fast charger that supports Power Delivery and is built with GaN technology.

If you see PD GaN in a product name, it is usually a short way of saying: this is a USB-C PD charger, and it uses GaN technology to be compact and efficient.
Multiport chargers: why more ports means more flexibility
A multiport USB-C charger makes it easier to charge several devices at once. For example, you can charge a laptop via USB-C Power Delivery, a phone via USB-C, and an older accessory via USB-A at the same time. In many setups, one charger can replace multiple older chargers and create a cleaner setup at home, at work and while travelling.
Why the cable matters just as much as the charger
Even the best charger cannot perform properly if the cable cannot keep up. A cable is not just a cable. If you want stable charging and fewer everyday problems, cable quality and construction matter. At higher power levels, a poor cable can lead to slower charging, an unstable connection or, in the worst case, overheating.
Durable cables: fewer failures and less frustration
Many cheap cables fail near the connector. That is why it makes sense to choose cables with:

A braided textile jacket that helps protect against wear.
Metal connectors that often feel more solid and durable.
Strain relief on both ends to reduce stress where the plug meets the cable.

If you want to take advantage of fast charging, a USB-C to USB-C 60W cable is a strong choice, especially when it is built for everyday durability.
Which cable length should you choose?
Length is not just a detail. It makes a real difference in daily use:

0.5 m is ideal for a car, a power bank or a tidy desk setup.
1 m is the classic all-round length for most charging situations.
2 m is great for sofa, bed and home office setups where the wall outlet is further away.

With the right length, you get a cleaner setup and avoid a cable that is either too tight or lying in a big loop.
How to build a charging setup that works in real life
If you want a solution that is fast, flexible and durable, a good rule of thumb is:

Choose a USB-C PD GaN charger with enough power for your devices, for example if you want a USB-C PD laptop charger.
Use a quality USB-C cable that matches the charging requirements and holds up to daily use.
Select the cable length that fits where you actually use your devices.

Ready to upgrade?
A compact GaN charger with USB-C PD can deliver faster charging and replace multiple older chargers. Combine it with a durable USB-C to USB-C 60W cable with a braided textile jacket, metal connectors and strain relief, and you get a setup that works better and lasts longer.
Explore our selection of GaN chargers, multiport USB-C chargers and durable USB-C cables, and choose the combination that matches your power needs, number of ports and preferred cable length.

Add WiFi to Your TVIP Box with the Official USB WiFi Adapter Rev.2

Several TVIP mediacenter boxes are delivered without built-in WiFi. A good example is the TVIP 710, which only comes with an Ethernet port. While wired network is the most stable, in many homes it is more practical to add wireless WiFi connectivity. The solution is a USB WiFi adapter, but not all dongles will work with TVIP boxes.
Why you cannot use just any USB dongle
TVIP mediacenters need the correct drivers and chipsets supported by their firmware. Cheap USB sticks often look the same but use unsupported Realtek chips. To avoid frustration, it is best to choose an adapter officially tested with TVIP firmware.
Recommended: TVIP USB WiFi Adapter Rev.2
TVIP USB WiFi Adapter Rev.2 is built on the Realtek RTL8811CU chipset, which is officially supported on several TVIP models and firmwares.

Dual band WiFi – 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
Up to 600 Mbit/s throughput
External antenna for stronger and more stable signal than nano dongles
Supported by both Linux Qt and Android TVIP firmware

Supported TVIP models
With the RTL8811CU chip (Rev.2) support is available from these firmware versions:

Linux Qt 5.0.36+: TVIP S-Box v.60x, v.52x, v.53x
Android firmware: TVIP S-Box v.7xx (incl. TVIP 710)

External antenna advantage
Compared to nano models, the external antenna may take up more space but delivers significantly better range and signal quality. This means fewer dropouts and more stable streaming, even if your TVIP box is placed further from the router.
Getting started

Update your TVIP box to the latest firmware.
Connect the adapter to a free USB port.
Go to network settings, enable WiFi, and connect to your router.
Use 5 GHz for highest speeds, or 2.4 GHz for longer range.

Tips for best performance

Place the antenna freely, away from metal and closed cabinets.
Choose 5 GHz if close to the router; 2.4 GHz if you need more coverage through walls.
Change WiFi channel if there is interference from neighbors.

FAQ
Does it work with TVIP 710? Yes, the entire 7xx series is supported on Android firmware.
Can I use any USB WiFi stick? Usually not. Only models with the correct Realtek chipsets are guaranteed to work.
Is Ethernet still better? A wired connection remains the most stable, but Rev.2 delivers one of the best wireless alternatives available.

NO vs NC Switches - Guide to Momentary and Maintained Types

How to Choose the Right Switch - Complete Guide
Are you unsure which switch, rocker switch, or electrical contact you need for your project? Whether you are working on electronics, vehicles, machines, caravans, or DIY electrical installations, choosing the right type of switch is essential. This guide explains the difference between NC / NO contacts and the ON-OFF designations, so you can easily select the best solution.
What Does NC and NO Mean?
The most common switch contact types are called NC (Normally Closed) and NO (Normally Open). Here is the difference:

NC - Normally Closed: The circuit is closed in its resting state. When the switch is activated, it breaks the circuit.
NO - Normally Open: The circuit is open by default. Only when activated does it allow current to flow.

NC contacts are often used in safety circuits or emergency stop switches, while NO contacts are common in light switches, push buttons, and start controls.
Understanding ON-OFF and Momentary Functions
Switches may be marked with designations like ON-OFF, ON-(OFF), (ON)-OFF, or (ON)-(OFF). These describe whether the switch holds its position or returns automatically when released.

How to Choose the Right Switch
Before choosing a switch or rocker, consider these points:

What should the switch do? Do you need the power to be on by default (choose NC), or only when activated (choose NO)?
Momentary or maintained? Should it return to its default position automatically (momentary), or stay in place (ON-OFF)?
Voltage and current: Check the rating. For example: 12V/20A for cars, or 250V/15A for appliances.
Shape and mounting style: Choose between round, rectangular, or LED-illuminated switches depending on the design.

Issues and Solutions for Qviart OG3 4K IPTV Box
Below is a list of frequently reported issues and how to resolve them:
No LED light on the Qviart display Check if the box is correctly connected to the power supply.
Box does not work and screen is black You may have selected the wrong HDMI input on your TV. Press the input button on your TV remote and switch input until you find the one the Qviart box is connected to.
Menus are visible but channels do not play Check your internet connection. Go to Menu, then Network, and select LAN configuration. If the IP address is 0.0.0.0, select DHCP and press OK. Make sure the box is connected to the internet and the router is working. Restart your router if necessary.
Picture but no sound Turn up the volume on both the Qviart remote and your TV. Try using another HDMI port on your TV if needed.
Cannot exit an app using the Exit button Press the Menu button on the remote to close the app.
Channel switching is slow Qviart boxes normally switch channels very fast. If switching is slow, it is often due to your media source or server response. Check your network and IPTV provider performance.
Box freezes when showing a channel Check if the issue occurs on other channels. If it happens on just one, the problem is likely with the stream from your IPTV provider. Contact them for support.
Box starts slowly This can be normal after the first setup or update. Repeated slow startups may indicate issues with the power adapter or network.
Time or clock is incorrect Go to Settings and Date/Time, and enable automatic synchronization. Select the correct time zone.
Channels buffer or stutter Usually caused by poor internet connection or overloaded server. Use a network cable if possible and run a speed test.
Remote control is not responding Check the batteries and only use high-quality new ones. Even new batteries can be weak, so check voltage if possible. Rechargeable batteries are not recommended. Use the IR extender if the box is hidden.
No picture after firmware update Unplug the box for 30 seconds and plug it back in. If the issue persists, reset the box or reinstall the firmware using USB.
Box only shows logo and then black screen This may indicate software failure. Perform a factory reset or reinstall firmware via USB. See guide on Tektronic.dk.

Why High-Quality Shielded Antenna Cables Matter for TV and Radio

Why Strongly Shielded Antenna Cables Are Essential for Optimal TV and Radio Reception
In a world full of wireless signals from WiFi, mobile towers and everyday electronics, ensuring a stable TV or radio signal is more important than ever. Picture dropouts, pixelation and sound interruptions are often caused by electrical interference – and the right cable can prevent that.
What Causes Signal Interference?
Signal interference happens when unwanted electrical noise enters the antenna cable. This is called electromagnetic interference (EMI) and it can come from sources such as:

Mobile phones and 4G/LTE towers
WiFi routers and Bluetooth devices
Microwaves, LED lighting, and in-wall power lines

How Does Shielding Help?
A good antenna cable is more than just a wire. It's built with materials designed to block outside interference through multiple layers of shielding.
Shielding effectiveness is measured in decibels (dB). The higher the value, the better the protection. A cable with 135 dB shielding offers excellent noise resistance.
What Makes a Cable High-End?

OFC copper (Oxygen-Free Copper): Ultra-pure copper ensures very low signal loss.
4-layer shielding: Aluminum foil and braided mesh block EMI effectively.
Gold-plated connectors: Prevent corrosion and ensure stable contact.
Strain relief and PVC: Protect the cable from bending damage.

Recommended High-End Cables (135 dB, 4x Shielded)

1 meter antenna cable
2 meter antenna cable
3 meter antenna cable
5 meter antenna cable
10 meter antenna cable

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 135 dB shielding really necessary? Yes, especially in homes with many wireless devices or in urban areas. It ensures clean signal transfer.
Does it work for both DVB-T2 and DVB-C? Absolutely. These cables support DVB-T2, DVB-C, DAB, and analog radio.
What defines a high-end antenna cable? OFC copper, gold connectors and strong shielding make the difference in performance and durability.

Qviart IPTV Media Player OG24K - Change MAC Address
You can change the MAC address visible to your IPTV provider. This is not normally necessary but can be useful if your provider only supports MAG boxes. In such cases simply change the first three values of the MAC address to 00:1A:79 which identifies a MAG box.
In other situations you may need two OG24K boxes with the same MAC address. Be aware that not all IPTV providers allow simultaneous use of multiple boxes.
IMPORTANT The MAC address you provide to your IPTV provider is the one shown or entered in the app and NOT the physical MAC address on the IPTV box.

Navigate to the QTV app. When the app is selected press the Option button on your remote control. A window will pop up. Navigate to Settings and press OK.

You will now see a new window. Go to MAC and press OK.

A keyboard will appear. Enter the MAC address you want to use. Be very precise. After entering press the blue button on your remote control to activate "Save and Exit".

A confirmation window will appear. Go to Save and press OK on your remote control.

If your IPTV provider has activated your subscription and your internet connection is stable and your MAC address is correctly entered you can now open the QTV app and start enjoying IPTV with your Qviart OG24K. Learn more about the OG24K IPTV Streaming box here.

2. Copy the file to a USB stick
3. Insert the USB stick into your Qviart OG box
4. Go to Settings and then Firmware update
5. Select Upgrade method USB and click OK
6. Wait until the update completes
1. Download the latest software
Get the latest software for your Qviart box. Be sure to select the correct model. You can download it here: Qviart official firmware

2. Copy the file to a USB stick
Copy the downloaded file to a USB device. Most USB drives formatted in FAT32 are supported. Make sure the file is correctly saved on your USB stick.

3. Insert the USB stick into your Qviart OG or OG 4K box
4. Go to Settings then Firmware update

5. Select Upgrade method USB and click OK

The box will ask if you want to update the firmware. Click Yes

6. Wait until the update completes
It is important to let the update finish. Do NOT power off the box during the update

After the update your Qviart box will be refreshed with the new firmware. Please note you will need to configure your IPTV settings again

Qviart OG IPTV Boxes - Factory Reset

If you have made too many changes or custom settings on your Qviart IPTV box a reset may be the solution. A factory reset restores the box to its original settings. This is also recommended if you have sold your Qviart IPTV box to ensure none of your personal data remains.
Please note that all settings will be erased including streaming service configurations. After the reset you will need to re-enter URLs usernames passwords and other information.
All Qviart OG family boxes follow the same reset method. Here is how to do it

Select Settings
Select Factory Reset
Enter the reset code
Press Yes

Your Qviart IPTV box will now reboot quickly and display the setup screen:
