What it is

This is a Conax CAM module in the NP4 Pocket series, based on the Neotion NP4 processor/platform. It is used in a compatible TV (IDTV) or digital receiver with a CI slot (DVB-CI), enabling the host device to read a Conax smartcard and access Conax-encrypted channels and services.

Why NP4 Pocket

The NP4 Pocket type is specified for both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 broadcasts. This matters because many broadcasters use MPEG-4 (AVC H.264) to deliver more channels and improved picture quality at the same bandwidth.

If you have a receiver or TV that works with MPEG-2 via CI, an MPEG-4 capable CAM can, in some setups, help you benefit from MPEG-4 services, provided your host device and your provider support it.
